Each engine is defined by you. You can create a "health" engine or a "local" engine or a "favorite message boards" engine!

What is Webled?

Webled is a very unique search engine and service where you build the collection of sites that you want to search. All you do is tell us you want a "Florida" specific search engine and identify the relevant sites for this engine. An example grouping of sites could be www.myflorida.com, www.fsu.edu, www.florida.com, state.fl.us, herald.com (Miami Herald) and so on. Then, when you use this niche engine in the future, we only return results from the site's you've identified in your customized engine! (View the Florida Eninge example.)

Q.	I heard that Webled is great for webmasters?
A.	Webled is beneficial for any Internet user who wants to pre-define areas of the Internet to search! However, if you are a webmaster, there are some great site search benefits to check out in the "Webmaster Frequent Questions" area below, and we'll even syndicate the results for free!

Can I create multiple engines?

You sure can! We encourage people to create all sorts of unique search engines. We allow you to decide if these engines will be publicized on Webled.com, or if you prefer to keep your engines somewhat private! However, it is nice to share your unique engines with friends, co-workers and other people from around the globe! After you've put a little time into your engine we really hope you decide to share it with the rest of the Webled community!

Q.	If I create a non-public engine, will it be completely discreet?
A.	At this time, no. The engines you create will be located at URL similar to http://www.webled.com/my-engine-name/ and someone could happen to type this in. What we do with non-public engines is we don't link to them from anywhere within the Webled.com website and definitely don't promote them ourselves.

Sometimes I don't find many search results

You have to remember when you are searching a customized engine, you are searching a small portion of the entire Internet. Try searching from the Webled homepage, or try adding more websites into your custom engine! The best tip we can give you is to use less search terms with Webled! Instead of searching "Florida beach turtle", you will want to search "beach turtle" because your engine is already focused on "Florida"!

Q.	Why is this service free?
A.	We decided to create Webled to help people find things on the Internet more easily and more effectively. We wanted a very easy way to do site specific searches across multiple websites. This service is the accumulation of those efforts.

Q.	Will Webled always be free?
A.	We would like to keep it that way. As long as people use the service in the ways it was intended, yes we intend to keep all portions of Webled free to the end users!

Q.	Can I try an engine first?
A.	You can, but many times the engines other people have created won't help you. Its best to find your own niche and focus, and build a unique engine around that topic. If you want you can browse other published Webled engines as well!

Q.	What do I need to signup?
A.	We don't require an email address, a credit card, or any personal information for you to sign up! All you need is a list of sites you want to create a unique search engine, a name for your new search engine, a password so you can edit the engine in the future, and a simple yes or no if you want this engine to be publicized on Webled.

Q.	I lost the password to my engine
A.	Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it. You can create a new engine if you like.

Q.	Can I license your engine?
A.	No, we provide you with everything that you should need as an end user or a webmaster. At this point our technology is not available for licensing to third parties.

Q.	I want to advertise on Webled
A.	At this point, we are trying to keep advertising on Webled to a minimum. If you would still like to discuss options with us, we are open to ideas and suggestions. Please contact us using the contact us page found at the bottom of this site.

Q.	We want to trade links with your site
A.	No, this is not a link trading service. If your site gets listings in our engine, then that is great for you! But we won't manually add more sites, or do link partnerships of that type. As a webmaster, what are the benefits of Webled?

The primary benefit is that within a matter of minutes you can create a search engine for your own website or for your entire network of websites. We also make integrating those search results into your site extremely easy.

Another benefit is that if you properly link to your engine on Webled.com, you should see more traffic in the future. This is because other engines will find, spider and list your Webled engine in their search engine results. When Webled gets more traffic, most of it winds up back at your site because that engine only has listings from your own websites!

For example, say your product is "hangers", you can point links to pages like: http://www.webled.com/my-engine/index.html?keywords=hanger. Thus you are giving other search engines more related content to spider. If you are successful in getting "webled.com/my-engine/" spidered, that engine will wind up getting more natural traffic in the future. Because that engine is all about your own website, you should see more traffic out of it.

Q.	Will I get more traffic if I create one hundred Webled engines?
A.	No. If you create an engine for your own website you will not get extra search engine traffic. Nobody is linking to your personalized engine, and thus nobody will ever visit it unless you promote. However, if you do get people to use the Webled engine, and can get your Webled engine listed in search engines, then you most likely will get some additional web traffic!

Q.	Will you spider my site more (or less) frequently?
A.	Unfortunately, we can not do this. The engine we use is built on solid technology, and really operates itself. If your site grows, it will be more likely to get crawled again, and this will of course only benefit you more. If you don't want to be crawled, then use an appropriate "robots.txt" file to stop your site from being crawled.

Q.	Syndication - What is it?
A.	Once you have built a custom engine, we offer you the ability to syndicate that search engine and its search results into your own website. This is done with a few lines of simple code and can be run upon virtually any operating system and any server software.

Q.	Syndication - How hard is it to set up?
A.	It is so easy. We have just a few lines of code you need to drop into your webpage and that's it. Granted there are ways to change the look and feel, to integrate the search engine into your site more, but initial installation should take the average HTML programmer no more than a few minutes!
